OFRENDAS

Picture
Sponsored by Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, Consulate General of Mexico in Miami & Community Foundation Of Broward.

Throughout the festival, traditional community remembrance altars or “ofrendas” spring up, covered in photographs, hand painted papier maché skeletons, sugar skulls, marigolds, trinkets, food for the dead and candles.  Community members, artists and schoolchildren all present personal memories of those whom they have lost in striking visual presentations. Workshops will help you learn about the tradition and for an extra fe you can build with materials from Trash to Treasure. Official location to see our community ofrendas is New River Inn (Fort Lauderdale/October 1-November 2).
